Fingering tips:

A5 Power Chord with root on the E string
Left Hand Fingering
  • Index Finger: Place it on the 5th fret of the low E string (6th string). This is the root note, which is an A.
  • Ring Finger (or Pinky): Place it on the 7th fret of the A string (5th string). This is the perfect fifth of the chord, an E.

Mute the Other Strings:

  • Make sure the other strings (D, G, B, high E) are muted by lightly resting your index finger across them, so they don’t ring out. You only want to hear the E and A strings.

Strum Only Two Strings:

  • Play both the low E string (root) and the A string (perfect fifth) together.
  • Keep the strumming motion simple, hitting only these two strings.

Quick Summary:

  • Index Finger: 5th fret, E string (A note)
  • Ring Finger: 7th fret, A string (E note)

When you strum both strings, you’re playing an A5 power chord!

This shape is moveable, so you can slide it up and down the neck to play other power chords.
